Ideas For Bridal Shower Games

Bridal showers, like baby showers, can be lots of fun, or they can be as interesting as watching paint peel. As a party planner, you are responsible for creating a party that is fun for the bride and her guests. Many of these guests have not met each other before this point, or have met only briefly. One of the purposes of a bridal shower is to give the guests a chance to mingle and get to know one another. Like at any other party, games can play a big role in breaking the ice. Here are some ideas for bridal shower games to keep the party interesting:

*Don't do this:
In this game, the guests are given a clothes pin or other marker when they arrive and are told not to say a certain word or phrase or perform a certain action, such a crossing their legs. If they are caught doing this, the person who observed them breaking the rule gets to take their marker away. The person with the most markers at the end of the party wins a small door prize.

*Famous couples:
In this bridal shower game, guests are given one half of a famous or known couple and they must guess the other half. Couples might be: Sonny/Cher, Brad/Angelina, Tom/Katie, Henry VIII/Marie Antoinette, Robin of Locksley/Maid Marion, Arthur/Lady Guinevere, etc. You may also include names of people at the party and their other halves.

*Herbs and spices:
This is a, thankfully tame, variation on the diaper game from baby showers. In this game, the guests must identify herbs by smell only. The guest who gets the most correct guesses may win a small prize.

*How well do you know the bride?
This is a game you will have a hand in creating. Write a list of questions and answers about the bride. Where did she grow up? What is her favorite color? Where did she meet her groom? Pass out the questions to the guests. The one with the most correct answers wins.

*Bride Bingo:
This game goes hand-in-hand with gift giving at the shower. Each guest is given a sheet with 25 open spaces. They will list an item in each space that they think the bride will receive at the shower. As the bride opens her gifts, they will mark off items on their bingo card. Five across, down, or diagonally wins.

*Raffle and door prizes:
You may choose to give away small gifts to guests, to be given away as they complete the games. You could also have a raffle, giving each guest a ticket as they arrive and holding the raffle at the end of the party. Gifts might be: candles, small live herbs or houseplants, bags of candy, or other small prizes. These prizes are not a requirement at a shower, though.

The games are intended to move the party along. If everyone is conversing well on their own and wants to get to the opening of gifts, you may choose to do that. It is not necessary to get to every game you have planned. The games can simply add fun and irreverence to what is hopefully a relaxing and memorable day for the bride.

Bridal Shower Bingo
Most everyone has played bingo at least once in their life. This variation takes on a wedding theme instead of the usual bingo letters and numbers.

Purse Game
With this activity, the hostess has a list of items with points assigned to each item. Common items have lower points and the more unusual items have higher points. For each item on the list, the guests get the assigned points. Whoever has the most points is proclaimed the winner.

Wedding Word Scramble
A list of wedding related words are scrambled so the letters are out of order. Guests are given a time limit to unscramble the words.

Whoever completes the word scramble first, is declared the winner.

Memory Game
Place a variety of household items on a table and have the guests spend a few minutes looking at the items. Take guests to another room and ask questions pertaining to the items. Some questions which could be asked are where was an item located on the table and what color an item was.

Toilet Paper Game
Have guests take a length of toilet paper as long as they choose, but do not tell them what the purpose is yet. Whoever has the length closest to the height of the bride wins.

Bridal Shower Games

One fun game really puts the bride on the spot with regard to her knowledge of her husband-to-be's life. Prior to the party, have someone ask the groom a series of questions, such as where he was born, what his favorite food is, things like that. Then at the bridal shower, put the bride on the spot by asking her the answers to the questions. See how many she can get right (hopefully at least half!). If she does well, give the girl a prize; she deserves one.

One all-time favorite game is toilet paper wedding dresses. This game involves separating the guests into teams consisting of at least 2 people and no more than 5. Give each team a roll or toilet paper (or 2) and have them fashion a wedding dress out of the toilet paper. One of the team members will volunteer as the model. Provide them with a "dress up trunk" filled with jewelry and shoes. They must make the dress out of the toilet paper, but they can accessorize with the provided jewelry, shoes, gloves and hats. Place a time limit on this (5 minutes is adequate) and have the bride vote on the best dress. Be sure to provide prizes for the winning team!

Another fun game that's always a hit is making the bride get dressed while blindfolded. Tell the bride she is to pretend she's on her honeymoon and the power has gone off. She must prepare for her wedding night in complete darkness. Provide her with a suitcase filled with items and then blindfold her. She must get dressed in a certain period of time (2 minutes is adequate) while completely blindfolded and with no help from the guests. Include some silly items like oversized sunglasses, garden gloves or a flannel nightgown just to make it fun. This is a photo opportunity, so be sure someone is waiting to record the end result!

Another fun game puts the shower guests more on the sport than the bride. In this game, everyone puts their purses in the center of the room. Create a list of items commonly found in a purse and assign a point value and create a list of less common items and give them a higher point value. So you might give lipstick 2 points, a tampon 3 points, and sunglasses 5 points. But a granola bar could be 10 points and a staple remover, 15 points. Then go through the purses awarding points and give the person with the highest number of points (and therefore, the most items and probably highest number of unusual items) a prize.

Before the shower, create bingo cards for this shower bingo game. In the squares, put pictures of items you think the bride will receive at the shower. So, boxes might include things like lingerie, towels and the like. As the bride opens gifts, have people mark off that item on their bingo card. If nobody gets a "bingo" give a prize to the person who marked off the most number of items.

This next game is a derivation of a popular game that's often played at bachelorette parties and involves a stripper. This is the clean version. About 30 minutes into the party, have the bride leave the room and pass out pieces of paper. Have everyone write on the paper everything they can remember about the bride's outfit, hair, etc. How many rings is she wearing? What color is her blouse? Is she wearing open or closed toed shoes? Once everyone is done recording their observations, the bride comes back into the room and a prize is awarded to the person with the best observation skills.

Fun Bridal Shower Games

One of your loved ones is getting married and guess what? You're in charge of the bridal shower! Of course one thing you want to provide is entertainment for the bride and her guests, such as fun games. The games all about having fun with the bride before she walks down the aisle. But are you having any trouble coming up with any fun games to play? Well don't worry, because there are hundred of games you can choose from, from silly to serious.

Here are a few ideas for fun bridal shower games to play at your loved one's bridal shower.

Game #1: Testing The Bride's Knowledge Of The Groom.
This game will test of bride's knowledge of her soon-to-be husband. Before the party, have someone ask the groom a bunch of questions. These questions can include where was he born, what is his favorite food, where he went to school, what his favorite color is, what kind of music he likes, what his first job was, and so on. When it's game time at the bridal shower, ask the bride all of the questions about her husband to be and see how many she gets correct. You can also give her a prize or gift for doing well.

Game #2: Toilet Paper Wedding Dresses.
For this game, you need to separate the guests into teams consisting of two to five people. Give each team one or two rolls of toilet paper and have them make a wedding dress out of it. Each team will have one team member modeling the toilet paper wedding dress. Provide each team with dress up items such as jewelry, shoes, hats, and gloves to accessorize with. Give the teams a time limit (5 to 10 minutes is a good time frame). When the time is up, have the bride vote on which dress is the best. You can give out prizes for the winning team. You can give one prize to the winning team, or a smaller prizes for the other teams and a bigger prize for the winning team.

Game #3: Making The Bride Dress While Blindfolded.
Here is another of the many fun bridal shower games. The bride will pretend she is on her honeymoon and they have lost power. Blindfold her and provide her with a suitcase full of items, but do not let her know what the items are. She must get dressed within a certain time period. Make sure the suitcase is full of silly items such as silly hats and jewelry, a nightgown, garden or rubber gloves, oversized sunglasses, mismatched shoes, and more. When the time is up, snap a picture. Then, let her take off the blindfold and show her what she looks like!

Game #4: Purse Items Game.
This game is more for the guests now than the bride. In this game, everyone who wants to participate will put their purses in the middle of the room. Then, create a list of items that are usually found in a purse. Create a point value for the list. For example, cosmetics can be 2 points, personal care products can be 3 points, and sunglasses or a hairbrush can be 5 points. But then give the less common products a higher point value. For example, a type of food (such as a granola bar) can be 10 points and a type of office product (such as staple remover or even a hole puncher) can be 15 points. Once you have the items and point value established, go through each purse and award the points to anyone who has a certain item on the list. Whoever has the highest amount of points will get a prize.

Game #5: Bridal Shower Gift Bingo.
Create some bingo cards before the bridal shower begins. In the squares, put pictures or write out items you may think the bride may receive as a bridal shower gift. So there may be lingerie, towels, candles, jewelry, bath products, chocolates, and so on. As the bride opens her gifts, have the guests mark off the item on their bingo card. The first person to get a "bingo" will receive a prize. If nobody gets a "bingo" by the time the bride is done opening her gifts, then the person who has marked of the most items will get a prize.

Game #6: Remembering The Bride's Outfit.
About 30 minutes or so into the party, have the bride leave the room. Pass out pieces of paper and a pen or pencil. Have everyone write down everything they can remember about the bride's outfit, including her apparel, accessories, hair style, and even make-up. Once everyone is done with their lists, have the bride come back into the room. The person who has remembered the most about her outfit will receive a prize.

There you go. Instead of having very little to no ideas, you now have six fun bridal shower games to consider! You can play the games the way they are written out for you, change them a little, or use them as ideas to create your own fun bridal shower games. Regardless of how you do it, the key is for everyone to have a lot of fun!
