Bridal showers, like baby showers, can be lots of fun, or they can be as interesting as watching paint peel. As a party planner, you are responsible for creating a party that is fun for the bride and her guests. Many of these guests have not met each other before this point, or have met only briefly. One of the purposes of a bridal shower is to give the guests a chance to mingle and get to know one another. Like at any other party, games can play a big role in breaking the ice. Here are some ideas for bridal shower games to keep the party interesting:

*Don't do this:
In this game, the guests are given a clothes pin or other marker when they arrive and are told not to say a certain word or phrase or perform a certain action, such a crossing their legs. If they are caught doing this, the person who observed them breaking the rule gets to take their marker away. The person with the most markers at the end of the party wins a small door prize.

*Famous couples:
In this bridal shower game, guests are given one half of a famous or known couple and they must guess the other half. Couples might be: Sonny/Cher, Brad/Angelina, Tom/Katie, Henry VIII/Marie Antoinette, Robin of Locksley/Maid Marion, Arthur/Lady Guinevere, etc. You may also include names of people at the party and their other halves.

*Herbs and spices:
This is a, thankfully tame, variation on the diaper game from baby showers. In this game, the guests must identify herbs by smell only. The guest who gets the most correct guesses may win a small prize.

*How well do you know the bride?
This is a game you will have a hand in creating. Write a list of questions and answers about the bride. Where did she grow up? What is her favorite color? Where did she meet her groom? Pass out the questions to the guests. The one with the most correct answers wins.

*Bride Bingo:
This game goes hand-in-hand with gift giving at the shower. Each guest is given a sheet with 25 open spaces. They will list an item in each space that they think the bride will receive at the shower. As the bride opens her gifts, they will mark off items on their bingo card. Five across, down, or diagonally wins.

*Raffle and door prizes:
You may choose to give away small gifts to guests, to be given away as they complete the games. You could also have a raffle, giving each guest a ticket as they arrive and holding the raffle at the end of the party. Gifts might be: candles, small live herbs or houseplants, bags of candy, or other small prizes. These prizes are not a requirement at a shower, though.

The games are intended to move the party along. If everyone is conversing well on their own and wants to get to the opening of gifts, you may choose to do that. It is not necessary to get to every game you have planned. The games can simply add fun and irreverence to what is hopefully a relaxing and memorable day for the bride.

Question by Mrs Ellis: Naughty and Nice Bridal Shower Ideas?
My sister is my maid of honor and she has decided on a "Naughty and Nice" theme for the bridal shower. Now she's stuck on how to word the invitations, what decorations to buy, what food/drinks to serve... the whole 9 yards! What is a "naughty and nice shower"? what type of gifts are given for it? What decorations are to be used? what games can you play? Anything about this type of shower will help. I know I'm not supposed to be planning it, I'm just looking for a variety of ideas to tell my sister to kind of help her out.
Also, my Fiance and I don't need anything for our house (our house is really small and we cannot fit anything else in it) What can we do let guests know because I don't want to offend anyone buy not keeping or using the items that they get for us...

I worked 2 years as a party planner and this theme can easily come out tacky if you aren't careful but I have a cool suggestion for you that may work. Have you considered using a "pin up" girl theme? pin ups are sexy and beautiful while still often tasteful. You could run with the theme and make the cards look retro, check out "Alberto Vargas" as well as "Charles Gibson" both famous pin up artists with beautiful works you could feature on the invitations.
Serve Pink Martinis in polka dot glasses and come up with cute retro nick names for all of the girls at the door like "Stella Stillettos" and "Marichino Mary". You can decorate with hot studly man posters from the era like James Dean and make sure you use some type of a color theme that you can tie into everything from the table runners to the napkins and the serveware for the food. Food can be served in vintage bowls and on vintage platters that can be found off ebay and in antique shops often times at good prices.
They have lots of those retro magnets you can score online to give away as favors to the attendants like the ones that say "If you want breakfast in bed, sleep in the kitchen!" (google em to see what I mean.
You could set up an appointment with a local sex toy consultant who give "naughty girl" parties where they will bring lingerie the bride might like for her honeymoon and various toys and books to inspire her. Depends on who all is coming and if they would be comfortable to take the party this far but they can really be a lot of fun. The lady that did mine brought games and goodies she gave out and all of my attendants pitched in and bought me a gift card to cash in with for the products the girl brought.
Foods should be light appetizers...you could do cheese platters with wine and retro cookies as well as traditional sherbet punch. I have also seen really cute mini diner snacks like mini burgers, mini grilled cheeses and mini corn dogs. You could serve nostalgic candies as well in old fashioned candy dishes from the thrift store. Music could be stuff like frank sinatra and dean martin for a classy feel. Have fun with it!
A few more random ideas and touches:
Research slang used in that era like making whoopy and "hose".. you could come up with a game quiz to see how many people know...

You may suggest gifts for the bride for guests to bring, if it's a naughty party guests are probably going to bring her lingerie so be clear on what they should bring her if she wouldn't be comfy getting these kinds of items

Let the attendants know what to wear, it would actually be more fun and great for pictures if you allowed the option for guests to dress the era or hold a contest for best dressed being out of character for the day can be a lot of fun!

You can have another game where you group people together and give them a roll or 2 of toilet paper and they have to design a "t.p. wedding dress" for the bride in a certain amount of time. They dress one group member up in it to model for the bride and then she selects the winners. It's a pretty common and fun game

Find out a few heartfelt ideas to give a bride to be for her bridal shower or wedding gift. An idea I forgot to talk about is to give them 3 old black and white movies like "You can't take it with you" with James Stewart or "Roman Holiday" with Audrey Hepburn etc. and a few popcorn buckets with a jar of popcorn to pop. Also it is a great idea to include a book on marriage. I recommend "The Proper Care and Feeding of Marriage"

look on the internet for sex parties. i dont know the address but i am sure they will have it. a lady will come to the house bringing nightgowns, toys, lotions, etc. i actually went with people who were from a church and they had a blast! they are really really fun and at the end you can buy things.

I'm my best friend's maid of honor, and I wanted to just get ideas from you girls about the Bridal Shower.

I don't know if it should be a surprise, I don't know if she should help me plan, or if the groom should be invited ("Jack and Jill shower").

I've actually never been to a bridal shower so I'm lost!

She's 24, and will still be when they marry. The groom is as well. There are 6 other bridesmaids...they both travel a lot, into all types of the arts, the bride's an actress, the groom's a business man and video editor on the side...

So any ideas? Just need a jumping off point!
